Deptford Neighbourhood Action (DNA) are now very close to completing the Neighbourhood Planning Process. However, DNA are still waiting on Lewisham Council to re-designate DNA as the Neighbourhood Forum for Deptford. They need to re-apply because they have taken longer than the 5 years allocated to complete the plan due to funding gaps and Covid restrictions. See the letter from DNA’s Chairman, Andrea Hughes:

DNA are now very close to completing the Neighbourhood Planning Process: There is only Lewisham Council’s consultation on the Plan, and then an Independent Examination of it, before a public referendum which gives everyone living in the DNA Neighbourhood Plan Area an opportunity to vote YES which will implement the DNA planning policies.

However, DNA are still waiting on Lewisham Council to re-designate DNA as the Neighbourhood Forum for Deptford, (because each Neighbourhood Forum is only designated for 5 years to complete the Neighbourhood planning process, and if you need more time to complete it (as we did – due to funding gaps and Covid) the Neighbourhood Forum has to re-apply to get ‘re-designated’.   DNA was hoping the Council would re-designate us before our AGM on 10th July.  However, we are now being left in ‘limbo’ as the Council has now delayed it’s decision until the September 2021, Mayor and Cabinet meeting (at the earliest they have told us)!

It would help us if members and local organisations emailed the Council to support DNA’s re-designation because one of the factors in this decision delay is that there were less than 30 responses to the Council’s consultation on our re-designation.  DNA have pointed out that this was likely because people had just responded to the DNA survey about our policies and the re-designation was probably seen as a bureaucratic process and not as important.
